Aircraft Safety Level 1 training prepares employees for travel to and from remote work sites using both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.

The program includes personal and organizational pre-trip planning, an understanding of the mechanics and limitation of the National air search and rescue program and theory highlights from our aircrew survival course.

Aircraft Safety Level 1 also includes an orientation to Northern aircraft types, aircraft communication equipment, survival equipment and Electronic Locator Transmitter (ELT) operation. We cover recommended and agency specific personal protective equipment requirements and dangerous goods issues.

The practical elements of this training include rehearsal of approaching and egressing safely from fixed and rotary wing aircraft, emergency ditching drills and emergency egress from an aircraft while on land.

During this training, candidates learn basic helicopter marshalling hand signals. Employers may choose to practice live helicopter marshalling at the additional cost of an aircraft rental. Employers may also choose to combine this training with our underwater aircraft egress training at a discounted rate.

Candidates of this program receive a course report for their training file. This record confirms the candidate’s knowledge of general aircraft safety and ability to access and egress an aircraft safely under normal operations as well as emergency ditching procedures.
