Ground Search And Rescue (GSAR)
GSAR - Fundamentals
Cost: $Call (Note) | Course Length: 5 Days (1 overnight) | Min/Max # Students: 6/20
Arctic Response delivers Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) Fundamental training that exceeds the national criteria established by National Search and Rescue Secretariat (NSS).
Arctic Response GSAR Fundamentals serials are five days in duration. In general, two days of “in community” time for theory training and three days “on the land” are required. This includes at least one overnight session to learn night search skills and hand over procedures for sustained operations. Classroom training also includes short out door exercises performed within the immediate community. The training progresses from simple to more complex elements. As an example, map and compass training begins with classroom theory, progresses to simple on-foot navigation exercises within the community and culminates with tracking exercises on the land.
Each GSAR serial incorporates and rehearses local, territorial and federal SAR plans. By avoiding generic training, gaps in planning quickly become apparent and a skeletal framework for correcting these shortfalls become value added benefits of the serial.
