Arctic Response delivers Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) Search Manager training that exceeds the national guideline criteria established by National Search and Rescue Secretariat (NSS).

GSAR Search Manger training educates and rehearses candidates through the primary search management roles that comprise a GSAR overhead team. The team is structured on the Incident Command System (ICS), which provides an effective, organized method of focusing critical areas of search management. Applied correctly, ICS is equally relevant to a search manager who may be initially operating alone and to a fully developed team comprised of multiple agencies and over a sustained period.

Candidates of this program must have sound search training and experience. Persons without practical search experience will lack knowledge of intimate logistical and time estimate details fundamental to building and supporting functional plans.

The Arctic Response GSAR Search Manager program is five training days in duration. Training includes established Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and forward search base operations through indoor and on-the-land training.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to bring copies of their team and / or jurisdictions GSAR policies and resource lists. Every effort will be made to rehearse the candidates in their specific policy to maximize realism and relevance.
This training is highly effective for:
• Mandated search commanders, such as RCMP, Parks Canada and some Provincial police agencies;
• Search manager nominees of formal and informal volunteer GSAR teams; and
• Industrial Emergency Response Teams operating in remote areas.
